The Falex block-on-ring tribometer combines test versatility with operational simplicity. Capable of simulating a variety of field conditions, the Falex Block On Ring Test Machine evaluates the friction and wear characteristics of materials and lubricants in research, quality control, and technical service applications.

Tests are typically performed using a flat (HP) block for single line contact, but conforming blocks for area contact may also be used.

The Four-ball Tribometer

The new and improved Falex Four-Ball introduces a new approach to the time-tested tribology concept of four-ball testing.

From the original test developed by Shell Oil Company, we’ve kept the best elements from our 60 years of mechanical upgrades and system automation and reimagined the rest for peak performance in today’s advanced labs.

This revolutionary concept for the Falex Four-Ball yields an instrument that is smaller, safer, and more versatile with improved automation, calibration, and increased capabilities.

It is the first tribometer in a new line of Falex Tribology test instruments.

The Falex Pin & Vee Block Tribometer

The Pin & Vee Block Test Machine is a laboratory tool for evaluating wear, friction and extreme pressure properties of materials and lubricants.

The equipment rotates a 1⁄4 inch diameter test pin against

two 1⁄2 inch diameter vee blocks.

A four line contact is established as load is applied through

a mechanical gage by a ratchet wheel and an eccentric arm.

The MultiSpecimen test machine is the most versatile commercial system for evaluating friction, wear, and abrasion characteristics of materials, coatings, and lubricants.

 

Standard Test Methods and Application Specific Custom testing programs are possible due to user selected contact geometries, motions, velocities, temperatures, contact pressures, and test specimen materials.

One test apparatus meets many test specifications and simulates a broad range of field applications: in R&D, quality control, product qualification and evaluation of materials, coatings, and lubricants properties.

Available in two versions :

1. Semi-Automated with 310 SoftWEARTM or 2. Automated with 330 SoftWEARTM Data Acquisition and Control.

Dry Sand Abrasion

The Falex Dry Sand/Rubber Wheel Apparatus offers the most accurate testing of abrasion resistance on a variety of materials and has been involved with the ASTM Standardisation Process for over 30 years.

In fact, Falex is listed as the sole source of supply in ASTM G65 and

is the only commercially available apparatus that has participated in

Inter-Laboratory Studies as support for the precision statements.

The rugged and reliable Falex Dry Sand Rubber Wheel Apparatus

can provide years of service.

 

The Wet Sand Option includes the slurry chamber front piece and

o-ring. Optional Test Kits are available for either ASTM B611 or G105

testing. The Falex apparatus’ versatility has enabled it to successfully

evaluate, and rank, a wide variety of materials, including weldment

overlays, cermets and polymers, in abrasive conditions.

 

 

The Dry Sand Tribometer can be used for custom testing tailored to

specific abrasion conditions and materials.

Miller Slurry Abrasion Tribometers

The Falex Miller Number Slurry Abrasivity Test Machine develops data on the relative abrasivity of any slurry (Miller Number), or response of different materials to abrasivity of slurries (SAR Number).

 

The machine meets the requirements of ASTM G75, Test Method for Determination of Slurry Abrasivity (Miller Number) and Slurry Abrasion Response of Materials (SAR Number).

 

The Miller Slurry Abrasion test has seen a recent revival with a number of slurry abrasion issues in various sectors of the industry. Although a very conventional test and design, the method has advantages over any other tribometer, in evaluating the abrasive action of a slurry against any given material.

Thanks to the large stroke -moderate speed motion of the wear blocks and the lifting action at the end of each stroke, constant refreshment and repeatability of the slurry is ensured.

The specially selected rubber bottom of the 4 parallel troughs holds the abrasive particles and creates a repeatable sliding action, but the large stroke provides a stirring action, refreshing the slurry automatically.

Four (4) tests can be run in parallel, so repeatability can be easily assessed. The four troughs also allow a faster screening method to be developed, enabling parallel wear tests that increase efficiency and reduce cost per result.
